  • Overview

Physical Therapist Assistants at Results play a crucial part of the delivery of high quality care to our patients. At Results, we have created care teams which partner PTs and PTAs to work together and collaborate in a unique way on delivering care to our patients. These non-traditional teams are created with one therapist and one PTA (a one-to-one care team) or two therapists and one PTA (two-to-one care team), where the entire team carries the same hours and works with the same patients each day. (Note: in the one-to-one care team model, it will be one patient list, representing 70-80 patients / week and in the two-to-one care team model it will be two patient lists representing ~125 patient / week). On a daily basis, PTs and PTAs will discuss each patient’s treatment progression and collaboratively develop a plan to get the patient to the appropriate provider during their daily visit.

We believe that this integrated care team model is beneficial to therapists, PTAs and patients.

For therapists, they have a committed partner that serves as a second set of “eyes and hands” on patients. PTAs provide therapists with their view on patient progression and collaborate on the best next steps to ensure high-quality care. Additionally, if the therapist needs to tend to another patient, he/she can be confident the patient is in the hands of another trained licensed clinician. During each new patient evaluation, the therapist will introduce the patient to the PTA and let them know their role in their care.

For PTAs, they benefit from working alongside a Results therapist who provides the PTAs on-going development as a clinician. Therapists work closely with their PTAs during the on-boarding process and lead clinical tutorials that advance the PTA’s knowledge. Additionally, working with only one or two therapists creates a clear direction for the PTA’s in role within the clinic and allows them to practice to the highest level of their license and skills.

Most importantly, for patients, they know each visit they’ll be working with only two clinicians (either the PT or PTA). This drives engagement with patients and gives them confidence who they will be seeing each visit to the clinic. In the event either the PT or PTA is not in the clinic, the other member of the patient’s care team will be there to provide continuity of care for the patient.

Additionally, all PTAs will have the opportunity to participate in Results’ best-in-class education program so they can practice at the highest level of proficiency and excellence. The curriculum is designed specifically for PTAs and includes four components:

    1. Intra-clinic orthopedic tutorials led by seasoned physical therapists
    2. Subscription to an online learning portal
    3. PTA-specific continuing education courses taught by our Clinical Leaders that cover a range of treatment modalities and conditions
    4. Dedicated clinical support and mentoring from the District Clinical Quality Leaders, Clinic Directors and Senior Physical Therapists
