    Job Summary (2-3 sentences describing job purpose): Provides sign language interpretation in all school environments for students who communicate through sign language.
    Reports to: Building Principals or others in a supervisory position

    : List, in the order of importance or time spent, the essential duties/tasks performed by the position. This is not an exhaustive list and employees may be assigned additional duties by management as required.
    Job Duty/Resp. 1: Provide professional and accurate sign language interpretation for designated students, both expressively and receptively, in the student’s communication mode in all school settings, including school sponsored extra-curricular activities.
    Job Duty/Resp. 2: Facilitate communication between students who use American Sign Language, their hearing peers, classroom teachers and other school personnel.
    Job Duty/Resp. 3: Provide other needed support services to designated students, attend meetings and inservices and participate as part of a student’s educational team.
    Job Duty/Resp. 4: Report progress and/or concerns to the student’s Case Manager.
    Job Duty/Resp. 5: Collect and record data of students’ performances and/or behavior and complete other duties as assigned.
    Job Duty/Resp. 6: Follow strict codes of confidentiality.
    Job Duty/Resp. 7: Effectively advocate for students’ communication needs across the school environment and participate in discussions with school personnel and related inservice trainings.
    Job Duty/Resp. 8: Exhibit flexibility to school and schedule changes and demonstrate team support and cooperation.

    Experience Requirements: Documented American Sign Language interpreting experience

    Licenses, Certifications or Registrations Required: State of Tennessee Educational Interpreter Licensure

    Skills Required: Professional American Sign Language interpreting skills and effective interpersonal skills

    Mathematical Requirements:
    Level 2: Uses addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; may compute ratios, rates, and percentages.

    Level 2: Performs semi-routine work following procedures, with occasional problems; requires normal attention for accurate results.
