    The Specialty division is home to Thomas Nelson Gift and Zondervan Gift – divisions focused on creating beautiful keepsake books and devotionals that are ideal for sharing as a gift to mark a special occasion or strong felt need. They often feature eye-catching embellishments, such as four-color interiors, photography, and special effects like foil, fabric, and gilding. We are also home to Tommy Nelson, a leader in children’s books that expand children’s imaginations and nurture their faith while pointing them to a personal relationship with God. We work with top communicators such as Max Lucado, Bob Goff, Kathie Lee Gifford, Sadie Robertson, Lisa Bevere, and many more.     The Publicist role will be responsible for crafting pitch angles, securing media opportunities, and managing logistics for Specialty authors.

    Responsibilities

    • Actively develop and maintain media contacts, including national, regional, local and online; continuously researching new outlets for possible coverage.
    • Build and maintain strong author and internal team relationships
    • Ability to craft pitches and angles optimizing gift and childrens book opportunities
    • Knowledge of digital PR strategies that optimize SEO blog potential, leveraging search data for pitch angles, etc.
    • Knowledge of trade (B2B) publicity strategies
    • Constantly surveying the media landscape for emerging opportunities and trends (i.e. podcasts, influencers, etc.)
    • Field incoming press requests and handle accordingly
    • Managing all logistics for PR-related author travel
    • Coordinate and execute galley printings and mailings of ARCs and finished books
    • Work with Publicity Manager to create and distribute media alerts
    • Help create pitch lists of national and local media custom tailored to each project
    • Researching and conducting preliminary interviews of outside PR firms
    • Assistance at book signings and events as needed
    • Collate clippings, screenshots, and other post-publicity collateral to share with team, authors, and agents
    • Research and facilitate industry award submissions

    Qualifications

    Knowledge

    • Excellent organization, communication, and writing skills
    • Knowledge of inspirational/faith-based media space, preferred

    Work Experience:

    • 3-5 years in a public relations field

    Education:

    • B.S. in public relations, communications or related field

    Industry Knowledge:

    • Strong grasp of book publishing industry, preferred
    • Cision experience preferred
    • Christian market experience preferred
    • Experience in four-color gift and devotional publishing preferred

    Skills:

    • Very proficient in Microsoft Office applications
    • Experience with PR database software (Cision, Vocus, Meltwater, etc.) preferred
    • Excellent organization, communication, and writing skills

    • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with a diverse group of people both internally and externally
    • The ability to be flexible and prioritize various projects going on at once
    • Self-starter
